Learning to Ask Good Questions in Grace: Amanda Owen, Family Therapist and CCHS Alumna

Amanda graduated from Covenant in 2009. She then attended Franklin College, where she double majored in Psychology and Spanish. Finally, she earned her MA from Indiana Wesleyan University, with a focus on Marriage and Family Therapy.

Initially, she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do after college. Her first job was with Indiana First Steps, a company that provides developmental therapy for young children. There, she worked with Spanish-speaking families and helped get them started with the program. She wanted to improve her Spanish by fully immersing herself in the community. She lived in Costa Rica for three months and volunteered at a children’s home. It was there that she started listening to all of the kids’ stories. This inspired her to pursue graduate school after returning to the U.S. after earning her degree,

Amanda’s first role was as a school-based therapist. She later transitioned to private practice. Amanda currently works at Northside Mental Health, located in Broad Ripple, where she provides individual, couples, and family therapy, kind of like what you see in the movies!

Amanda’s family includes parents (Mike and Dianne), brothers (Brad and Cody, class of 2008 and 2014), sister-in-law (Sydney), and nephew (Auggie). Oh, we can’t forget the German Shepherd, Dodger, too!
